The Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be a world-class centre for reflection and dialogue about human rights, freedoms and responsibilities. Located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, this Museum is slated to open in 2013.
It was established as a unique relationship between the public and private sectors, and with a mandate to promote and teach human rights in order to inspire visitors to take personal responsibility for the preservation and enhancement of human rights in Canada and around the world. At the project’s heart is a funded national student travel program that will bring upwards of 20,000 students each year through the Museum for a powerful human rights journey.
This is a museum about ideas; about a new dialogue. Visitors will be engaged in a discussion about what they can do to ensure that we build a future of equality, opportunity and mutual respect for everyone. The majority of the content won’t be about looking into the past, but instead asking visitors to contemplate how together we can build a better future.
